Modern British: The Orangery, Thirsk Hall Sculpture Garden

1 May - 29 June 2024
This exhibition highlights six artists whose work encapsulates British Modernism; Sandra Blow, Henri Gaudier-Brzeska, Bernard Meadows, Eduardo Paolozzi, Austin Wright and Emily Young. The selection of work on display spans almost a century, starting with Gaudier-Brzeska's expressive male and female nude drawings in 1913 to Emily Young's Selene: Moon Goddess carved in 2017. This range helps to visualise the shift towards modernism and its subsequent influence on contemporary art.
